Jimmy Nelson | TEDxAmsterdam
Jimmy Nelson is one of Britain’s finest and most adventurous photographers. When he was only 19, Nelson began a year-long trek across Tibet. A small hand-held camera recorded his journey and the amazing sights he came across every day, leading him into a much-loved career as a photo-journalist.
Jimmy has worked on his project, ‘Before They Pass Away” for over three years. It began with a journey around the world, photographing various indigenous persons. Jimmy would eventually photograph members from 35 endangered tribal communities, using a 50 year-old 4×5 camera.
Jimmy has been severely criticized for portraying the tribes in a romanticized and stylized way, far from the reality of their true lifestyles. After his highly successful talk at TEDxAmsterdam last year, and his recent TEDGlobal talk, Jimmy has recently returned from revisiting the tribes, and is eager to answer questions and speak of his experiences to Jim Stolze.
